This past May, Dr. Sue Carstairs and Fish and Wildlife Technologist Jackie Carnegie took the 10 newly equipped Blanding’s juveniles to their new home.

The release site was previously surveyed by Biologist Brennan Caverhill and Dr. Carstairs and determined to be ideal for the release and study of the Blanding’s turtles.  The location was chosen due to its suitable habitat and close proximity to where the mother was found.  The site was remote and ensured that human contact would be minimal.  The habitat itself   was abundant with wildlife, provided both emergent and submergent vegetation, organic sediment and a large variety of food. The shallow water levels and nearby network of lakes, wetlands and bogs were also ideal.
